Dr. Sharon Gaston understands the power of literacy and its effects on all that we do. She has been an educator for thirty years and has written and illustrated her own alphabet books, plays and a series of character education fables such as Clean Your Own House, Misery Loves Company and Brenda Bee Wannabe, which were inspired by stories her mother used to tell her when she was a child. Dr. Gaston believes that learning through the arts is a fun and interactive way for children of all ages to understand and remember new concepts that are presented to them. Her latest project is a nonfiction book entitled, Thou Shalt Never Quit, The Story of General Daniel “Chappie” James Jr. who was a Tuskegee Airman and first African American, four-star general in the U.S. military. Dr. Gaston earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, a master’s degree in Reading Education and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Supervision. She is a reading specialist in Arlington, VA as well as a professional storyteller.
